Job summary
Peer mentors are student leaders that serve as positive role models, working closely with first-year students in and outside of the classroom to help them achieve success at HCC. 
 
Responsibilities: 
Serve as a role model for students
Refer students to HCC resources, service, and programs
Instruct students on how to locate HCC resources and materials
Assist students with solving challenges of being a new student at HCC and help them navigate their way through the college environment
Connect students with information about campus policies, events, activities
Provide one-on-one attention in discussing class assignments and accessing just-in-time resources
College identified student information for state reporting and program evaluation purposes 
 
Minimum Requirements:  

Be classified by the institution as a Texas resident


 Be registered with Selective Service or be exempt


 Have financial need


 Be enrolled at least 1/2 time in a plan leading to a degree or certification


 Have a GPA of 2.8


 Not be a recipient of an athletic scholarship (i.e. the student is obliged to play an intercollegiate sport as a condition of receiving the scholarship) during any semester WSMP is awarded


 Not be enrolled in a seminary or other program leading to ordination or licensure to preach for a religious sect or to be a member of a religious order


 Have completed all required developmental courses


 Receive appropriate training
