Senior Analyst, Budget
Job Summary
The Senior Budget Analyst provides analytical, financial, budgetary and administrative support of budget projects. Analyzes financial data and develops complex reports for forecasting and result analyses. Assists in financial studies regarding projected changes in revenues and expenditures. Oversees revenue and expense budgets for all operating and auxiliary funds. Ensures compliance with university and/or agency regulations and restrictions. Trains others in budget related policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform full life cycle development of business, budget, financial reports, analysis, and models.
Responsible for reviewing operating budgets periodically in order to analyze trends affecting budget needs.
Meet with department users to elicit and manage business requirements for potential reports and models.
Analyze complex financial data while extracting and defining relevant information; interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.
Coordinate and assume a leadership role in the development of unrestricted funds budget, including revenues. Analyze budget patterns, project expenditures, and prepare approved budget.
Compile working papers and approved budgets; ensure that expenditures for budgets and contracts are monitored. Ensure reports are prepared to maintain balanced accounts.
Assist in the development of regulatory and ad-hoc management and statistical reports.
Monitor expenditures throughout the fiscal year. Identify and communicate budget shortfalls to management.
Confer with appropriate internal and external administrative offices to ensure that required procedures are followed. Provide instruction and answer questions relating to budget procedures, serve as a liaison between the Financial Control Department and other departments. Identify budget issues, provide alternative solutions, and resolve problems.
Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
Determine and design the approach or strategy necessary to implement client requirements using application development tools or in conjunction with data and functionality resident in the information management system.
Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field required
- Master’s degree preferred
- 5 years of related work experience required
Licensing & Certification
- Valid Texas Driver License

Working Conditions
General Office. Must be able to perform all job requirements with or without reasonable accommodations; remain in a stationary position during shift; move items weighing up to 25 pounds; position self to operate job equipment; apply established protocols in a timely manner. Must access, input and retrieve information from technology devices; communicate with others to accomplish job requirements. May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
