Instructor American Sign Language - Adjunct Pool
EDUCATION
Master’s degree in a qualifying field (American Sign Language, Linguistics of American Sign Language, Signed Language Interpreting, Deaf Culture, Deaf Education, and Deaf Studies) or Master’s degree in another field with 18 graduate hours in a qualifying field required.
EXPERIENCE
Three (3) years of related work experience.
One (1) year of college level teaching experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Fluency in American Sign Language and the ability to translate from sign to spoken word and from spoken word to sign in a variety of settings
Possess the ability to work in a diverse work environment
Willing and able to teach day or evening classes at a number of sites around the city
Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population
Possess good organizational and planning skills
Demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment
Self-disciplined and able to effectively manage others
