SUMMARY

Assist with the daily operations of the fitness center. Assist members with fitness assessments, goals, and individual programs, and work in the weight room to ensure safety standards and teaches member classes. Provide management and leadership in the fitness center during shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assist with clerical duties, inventories, and training of new employees.

Teach member classes and answers fitness related questions of members and students.

Help maintain data and statistics on fitness center members and physical education classes and students.

Assist members in their fitness assessment, goals, and individual programs.

Work the front desk (sell memberships, answer phone, answers student inquires, hands out towels, etc.)

Work in the weight room to insure the safety of the members.

Assist with instructor needs for equipment, supplies, etc.

Maintain equipment for safety and cleanliness, making repairs if appropriate.

Open and/or close the fitness center.

Offer institutional support with events such as Walk America, HCCS clean-up day, etc

Conduct orientation for new members in the safe and proper use of all weight equipment in the weight room.

Teach member classes (water aerobics, abs, etc.)

Offer fitness advice and help with individual fitness students.

Work to improve knowledge, skills, and abilities in the fitness industry through continuing education and certifications.

Assist the Manager with the oversight of attendants and fitness center staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

EDUCATION
Associate’s degree in a fitness related field is required. Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred.

CPR and First-Aid Certification required.

National certification through ACSM, NSCA, ACE or AFFA desirable.

EXPERIENCE
One (1) year work experience in a fitness center environment required.

Assessment and exercise recommendation experience required.

Prefer national certification through ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFFA desirable.

Lifeguard certification preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

Must have the ability to function in many areas of the fitness center

Must have the ability to manage multiple responsibilities

Must be able and willing to work some Saturdays

Must be willing to improve knowledge, skills, and abilities in the fitness industry through continuing education and certifications

Basic computer knowledge and skills require
