We are proud to be No.1 among all community colleges in the nation in providing associate degrees to minorities and No.1 in educating international students, with 10.4 percent of our student population from outside the USA. Our vision is to become the Employer of Choice in support of our mission for Student Success by attracting, retaining and motivating the best employees.

The Team

Be a part of a dynamic community dedicated to providing the resources, guidance and inspiration needed to create the ultimate student experience: from registration and financial aid applications to the first time they arrive at one of our Centers of Excellence or log in to their first class, from academic success planning to providing a safe environment, and from connecting them with community networks to launching them into the career of their dreams. Make their student experience exceptional.

We are currently seeking an Assistant Director, Upward Bound, who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

The Opportunity
You: You’re a big believer in the transformative power of education, and you thrive on helping students get on the right path that will lead them to personal, academic and career success.

Your mission: We’ll rely on you to coordinate all aspects of the Upward Bound program, which recruits H.I.S.D. students from the ninth and tenth grades in order to aid and encourage them to successfully complete high school, enroll in a post-secondary institution and graduate from that institution.

Your work: You’ll assist the director in researching and writing grants, as well as in hiring, supervising and evaluating top-notch counselors and staff. You’ll establish relationships with internal and external constituents, and you’ll recruit students, providing them with individual personal, academic and career counseling during the academic year and summer instructional components.

Planning and implementing a wide range of program activities will be a major component of your work, including visits to target schools to ensure Upward Bound activities meet the goals and objectives of the program; participation in college and community events; a student recognition activity for a scholarship award program; a parent involvement component; cultural enrichment and recreational activities, including field trip experiences and seminar speakers on a variety of topics; and a follow-up study of former graduates.

Next steps: If you always have the student experience in the forefront of your planning and execution, if you’re a collaborator, an innovator and a person who gets things done, apply today!
